The Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts was a beloved annual event held in Buffalo,
New York, typically during the last weekend of August. For 24 years, it transformed
Buffalo’s Elmwood Village into a vibrant celebration of local culture, featuring over
170 artists, live music, and dance performances.

Each year, the festival team selected a theme—and then we ran with it. Artists and
performers would take inspiration from the theme when designing costumes and building large-scale puppets that roamed the festival grounds. All in all, it was 48 hours of wild, unbridled creativity and community spirit.
