Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) allows scientists to flash-freeze proteins in motion and then visualize their structures using a beam of electrons. The resulting high-resolution, 3D images reveal how proteins function—crucial for understanding biological mechanisms and designing drugs to repair malfunctioning proteins.
The Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute has emerged as a leading center for Cryo-EM research. Our team was tasked with developing an engaging and accessible primer on this groundbreaking technology. The goal: to invite researchers from around the globe to collaborate with the Institute and to inspire support from philanthropists eager to accelerate scientific discovery.
Our scope included: Concept development and visual storytelling, design and design standards, custom photography, and production oversight The final piece serves as both an informative resource and a compelling call to action—elevating awareness of Cryo-EM’s potential and positioning Hauptman-Woodward as a global hub for structural biology research.
