Founded in 1897 by Elbert Hubbard, the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, NY, became a cornerstone of the American Arts and Crafts Movement.
For over two decades, it thrived as a vibrant hub for artisans, writers, and entrepreneurs from around the world.
In 1905, The Roycroft Inn opened its doors to welcome visitors into this creative community. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 1986, the Inn underwent an $8 million restoration and reopened in 1995 as a beautifully preserved boutique hotel that continues to honor its artistic legacy.
Roycroft artisan-made goods—furniture, books, and pottery—were renowned for their exceptional quality. Crafted with “head, heart, and hand,” these pieces embraced the beauty of imperfection. This philosophy, along with the distinctive typography and decorative elements found in books produced by the Roycroft Press, inspired the approach to the new visual brand.
